About Kbluz Internet Radio
Kbluz Internet Radio has been a dream of mine for a long time. It’s the culmination of my lifetime of technology and music. I’ve been a technology addict every since I discovered my Mom’s iron and my Dad’s screwdriver. I’ve been a music fan since I was born. Music literally saved my life when I was a very confused kid of 12. Programming computers has kept bread on my table for many years.
I was born in a dusty West Texas cotton farming community in 1949. My earliest memory of music is hearing an old black fellow playing his ‘ham bone slide’ guitar on the streets of that town. Everybody called this man R. L. They said he ‘wasn’t right’. I liked hearing him play. My grandfather often used his fiddle bow to play his saw. It sounded like R. L.’s ham bone to me. Anytime I climbed into the pickup truck with Dad, Hank Williams was singing about those ‘Honkey Tonk Blues’. Man, I got ‘em from him.
In 1957, an older cousin from a much larger Texas town came to visit us for the summer. He brought along his record player and with it a small stack of 78 rpm records and a few 45′s. He and I wore those records out that summer. Our two favorites were ‘That’s All Right Mama’ by Elvis Presley and one called ‘Honest I Do’ by the great Jimmy Reed. I’ve been a music junkie ever since.
I’ve created Kbluz because I believe that we’ve reached a major turning point in the world of technology and music. This is one of those seminal moments in history where things really change. At this point in our evolution, music, art and technology are combining to allow us to enjoy more authentic music and to know the artist better than at any other time in history. The mighty Internet is changing our life and it’s changing how the music business works too. Move over radio, move over TV, move over satellite, today the Internet is king!
The founding philosophy behind Kbluz is to show people where the Blues came from, where it’s been, where it’s at, and where it’s going. To quote the great Willie Dixon, “The Blues are the roots, everything else is the fruits.” So Kbluz will stick close to it’s ‘roots’ and play plenty of ‘pure’ blues music. In the interest of progress, Kbluz will also play music that is what I refer to as ‘a half-step from the blues’. Willie Dixon would refer to this music as ‘the fruits’. So when you listen to Kbluz, you’ll hear the occasional cut of R&B, Rock and Roll, blue jazz and soul.
No art form can survive by rejoicing in it’s past while sitting and starring blankly at it’s present, so Kbluz features artists and songs from all eras including some of today’s best independent, cutting edge blues artists.
I hope you enjoy listening to Kbluz as much as I enjoy bringing it to you.
Thank you,
Dooley
